South Africa –When Will the Unemployment Rate Recover?

 

Macro Watch Global: The unemployment rate of South Africa remained among the highest for many years. The South African economy has recovered from the global recession and is recording positive growth. However, the growth has not translated into increased employment opportunities.

Observers are undoubtedly assessing if employment situation will improve as South Africa recovers from its recession. The unemployment rate stood at 25.2% in 2012 Q1, only fractionally short of its post-crisis peak of 25.3% in 2010 Q3. The lack of job creationdespite economic recovery is keeping high unemployment a major challenge in South Africa, especially among youth and new entrants.
